What To Expect
What to expect at Vox!
We know that a lot of people are nervous about going to a church for the first time. It can be tough because you have no idea what to expect. You might be a little worried that things will be weird and you’ll feel uncomfortable. We get that, so we thought that maybe we’d explain what goes on Sunday mornings to you, so you’ll be a little better prepared. Our Weekend Service takes place Sunday mornings at 10:30 am.
There are three options for where to find us currently! We meet in person at “The Loft” behind the Moving Art Dance Studio, at 125 Anne Street South. To find us, pull around to the back of the building and come through the big black door. If you live in the area, we’d love to meet you in person. If you live further away, aren’t feeling well, or need the accessibility that comes from an online service for whatever reason, you can find us either on Facebook or Youtube. Both our YouTube channel and our Facebook page offer access to our services after the fact as well, in case you have to work or are otherwise unable to attend during the service. If you are attending through either Facebook or Youtube (live or after the fact), we’d still love to connect! Please send an email to [email protected] to start the conversation.10:30ish…
Our service starts at 10:30 am, but many of us struggle to be exactly ‘on time’. Some show up sometime after 10 am to connect before we start. This is a great chance to meet a few people! Some show up a little after 10:30 and join us as we get the service started. Transitions can be hard for some of us, so we usually have a countdown timer with 5 minutes notice. This is especially helpful if you’ve got to make a last minute run to the bathroom.
Getting Started.
We usually start the service off with a few songs that are a little more upbeat and fun. We try very hard not to take ourselves too seriously, so please feel free to join in with the singing – even if you’re not much of a musician!
After the first couple of songs, we pause for some announcements. Then we take time to sing Happy Birthday to anyone who celebrated their birthday in the last week. After that we take a ten minute break. This is a chance to grab a coffee or tea and reconnect with one another. In case you haven’t noticed, community is pretty important to us at Vox.
Kids!
Here’s the thing about kids… over time, they grow up! And somehow between COVID, families moving away, and kids growing up, our VoxKids group has shrunk to a smattering of lovely little humans. It only takes a few families for that to change, but for the time being, we are offering toys, art supplies and a place for children to play at the back of the main space, or they are welcome to sit, stand, or move around the space through the service. We love the noise and energy of kids – and also hope that this won’t last forever! If you have any questions about kids at Vox, or if you’d like to check us out, but are craving some non-parenting time, please send an email to [email protected] and we’ll do our best to arrange for a more intentional VoxKids program for you.
If you have a child or youth with a disability, please refer to our Accessibility Commitment page for more information on how we can support you and your child. If your child or youth identifies as LGBTQ, please refer to our LGBTQ Commitment page for more info on that.
Teaching.
After our break we usually spend a little bit more time singing a few songs and sometimes we watch a short video that’s designed to help get our brains chewing on the topic we’re going to be talking about that morning. When it comes time for the sermon, we are fortunate enough to have a teaching team, made up of several members of our leadership team.
You can find out more about our leadership team here
Whoever is preaching, they are sure to challenge us with some teaching on the scriptures. Their goal is to keep our attention and get us thinking on our own for the rest of the week. At Vox, we believe that everyone should be able to be included in the conversation. So whether you’ve been going to church your whole life or it’s your first time ever, we use language that everyone can understand.
Hopefully, this helps you have a better idea of what you’re getting into before you actually show up at Vox on a Sunday. We’re looking forward to getting to know you.

No explanation of what happens on a Sunday morning is ever quite cuts it, so ultimately we hope you’ll visit us to discover who we are for yourself!
